The Story of Diablo

This is the story of Diablo, a kitten who adopted us one day after work. I decided to tell his story in story format. The first few paragraphs are speculation, reflecting my opinion of those who abandon kittens.

The tiny kitten, with fur as dark as midnight and charcoal grey stripes, was nursing contentedly at his mother's side when rough hands suddenly grabbed him. He squeaked in fear as he was snatched away from the only source of comfort he had known. His siblings were already gone, leaving him and his mother behind with their uncaring human captors. Despite being the smallest of the litter, he longed to play with his brothers and sisters, but they always left him out due to his size. And even though he craved love and affection, his short life has been filled with loneliness and cruelty at the hands of the humans who kept them captive - rarely feeding them and showing no kindness or compassion.

The kitten cowered in fear as the human's rough hands gripped him tightly, the scent of stale cigarette smoke and beer overwhelming his sensitive nose. The old truck rattled down bumpy roads before suddenly stopping in a bustling supermarket parking lot. The human flung the kitten out onto the pavement and sped off, leaving him alone and terrified.

The helpless kitten meowed for his mother, hoping she would hear him and come to his rescue. As time passed, he mustered up the courage to explore his surroundings. He stumbled upon a dirty, red car, but something about it felt safe. With trembling paws, he crawled underneath the car and found a cozy corner to hide in.

The couple who owned the car were employees at the local supermarket and deeply loved animals. As they finished their long shift, they were exhausted and ready to go home, but then they heard the faint cries of a helpless kitten. They desperately searched under the car, but the kitten refused to budge. With a heavy heart, they made the difficult decision to drive home with the kitten still trapped in the undercarriage of their car. Their concern for the kitten's safety battled against their hope that since the car was a plugin hybrid and the engine wouldn’t turn on, the kitten would make it home safely.

Once they had driven the short distance home and parked, the frightened kitten let out an ear-piercing scream. The couple got out and kneeled down, their hands held out in comforting gestures as they cooed softly at the distressed feline. But even with their calming words, the kitten refused to leave its hiding spot under the car. Determined, the couple used their two days off from work to patiently lure the kitten out. They meowed and rustled bags of treats, but the little devil was still nowhere to be seen on the second day. Undeterred, they left food and treats by the car and camped out next to it, waiting for the elusive kitten to make an appearance. Finally, after what seemed like hours, a small head peeked out from around a tire. The couple's hearts swelled with joy as they slowly led the little kitten towards them with more treats and gentle words. Eventually, they captured the mischievous kitten and gave him a fitting name - Diablo, the little devil who was not easy to catch but certainly worth all the effort and love.

The kitten quickly adopts the woman as his surrogate mother and the man as a friend. They take him inside their home, feed him, and show him love. He is a happy, healthy little kitten who frolics around the house, getting into everything. He sleeps with the couple and is glad to have a safe, loving home.

To keep Diablo from being afraid of car rides and being around other people, the couple takes the little kitten to the park to walk around. The first time they take him, he doesn’t do much walking but clings to Christy, and they walk him around the park in her arms. He is given treats after braving the world around him as a reward. When they get back home and his harness is removed, they play with and love on him. Diablo soon learns that when the couple puts on his harness and puts him in the carrier, it isn’t something to fear. But it means he is going on an adventure!

The couple takes him to the Vet for his first checkup. The couple learns that he is about four months old; as far as the Vet can tell, he is just small. They give him the birthday of March 24th, which matches the man's birthday. After getting his first shots and getting rid of his ear mites and fleas, the Vet discharges him to the couple, and they return home. Diablo’s days are spent frolicking and sleeping around the house while the couple is at work. When they return, he greets them with enthusiastic meows and physical closeness.
